Electing Supportive Candidates Who Stand Toe to Toe with Retirees

In every election, we work hard to elect candidates who back our legislative priorities and stand toe to toe with the retired state employees who made great sacrifices to serve our state. To achieve this, we put time and effort into meeting with the political candidates, endorsing those who will support our mission, and following up so that they know that our 10,000 AFSCME Texas Retirees members are watching.

That’s true both in the Legislature and on the ERS Board. For years, we worked tirelessly to change state law so retirees can serve on the Board – and we can have a seat at the table when ERS discusses our pensions and benefits.

Congratulations to Stuart Greenfield of Austin, a retired Comptroller of Public Accounts employee, for his recent election to the ERS Board of Directors. This was the first election since the change in state law. Now, we have a seat at the table when discussions about our pensions and benefits occur, which is a significant step forward in safeguarding our interests.

Thank you for your unwavering dedication to our cause. And please don't forget to complete our recent survey about working after retirement —yet another way to make a difference as we advocate at the Capitol.
