Looking Back on 2025: A Year of Action, Connection, and Commitment
2025 was a year marked by action, connection, and steady determination for AFSCME Texas Retirees.
Throughout the year, retirees showed up across Texas and beyond. Members took part in legislative hearings, ERS fairs, community events, marches, and town halls, ensuring retiree voices were present wherever decisions were being discussed. From local gatherings to statewide advocacy, retirees remained engaged and visible in the fight for fair treatment and retirement security.
That work extended beyond state lines. In 2025, AFSCME Texas Retirees traveled to Washington to advocate for the protection of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. These efforts reinforced a simple truth: the benefits retirees rely on were earned through years of public service and must be protected.
Closer to home, retirees continued pressing for a 13th check and a meaningful cost-of-living adjustment. As rising costs affected everyday life, members made clear that dignity in retirement requires follow-through, not promises left unmet.
Equally important were the moments of connection. At ERS fairs and community events across the state, retirees reconnected with former coworkers, welcomed new members, and shared stories that reminded us of the strength of this community. These moments built relationships that continue to fuel our work.
Looking back on 2025, AFSCME Texas Retirees remained active, united, and persistent. Looking ahead, that same commitment will guide the work still to come.
