Standing Up for Retirees: Town Hall with Rep. Greg Casar Draws Hundreds in Austin

Last week, U.S. Representative Greg Casar hosted a Town Hall in his home district of Austin, spotlighting threats to Medicaid, Medicare, and other essential programs that millions of retirees rely on.

Co-sponsored by AFSCME Texas Retirees and the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans, along with a broad coalition of advocacy groups, the event brought together nearly 400 community members united by a shared concern for the future of these critical safety nets.

Following a 45-minute presentation, Rep. Casar engaged in a candid and wide-ranging Q&A session with attendees, who voiced deep anxieties about proposed federal cuts and the political forces driving them. The audience's energy was palpable, reflecting a growing movement among older Texans determined to protect the benefits they’ve earned.

We thank Rep. Casar for his time and leadership, and we remain committed to fighting alongside our partners and members to defend dignity, health care, and retirement security for all.
